For over forty years, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) has mobilized our nation to confront injustice and dismantle barriers, honoring the resilience and courage of victims. Justice is not automatic, nor should it be unattainable, yet for victims, obstacles remain. Every April, communities across the country reaffirm this commitment, with the 2026 observance scheduled for April 19–25. This week marks both the strides achieved and the ongoing work needed to ensure justice for all.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation identifies five major categories of crime: violent crimes, property crimes, public order offenses, white-collar crimes, and organized crime. While each is prosecuted for the harm caused, what too often goes unnoticed is the enduring impact on victims and survivors, physically, financially, emotionally, spiritually, and socially.
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is more than an awareness campaign; it is a powerful call to action that honors survivors, uplifts voices that turn pain into purpose, and recognizes the advocates who stand beside them. It challenges us to break down barriers in the justice system while reminding every victim, especially those facing life-threatening realities, that their rights are not just protection, but lifelines. It is a promise of solidarity: no one should face that trauma alone. Together, we each have a role to play in listening, supporting, and ensuring that every victim is not only seen, but heard, and protected.
