Types of Positions Employed by Crime Victim Services

  1. Victim Advocates: These staff members work directly with victims of all crimes, both prosecuted and non-prosecuted. The Victim Advocates all specialize in an area (misdemeanor, felony, juvenile, sexual assault and domestic violence).
    Requirements: Must be able to provide crisis counseling (LSW, Licensed Social Worker) or counseling ( MSW, Masters of Social Work)

  2. Coordinators: These staff members develop and operate programs including rape crisis services, victim impact panels, victim ministry and support groups. The coordinators often provide these programs in several counties.
    Requirements: Must have two year degree in related field or equivalent experience.

  3. Assistants: These staff members work with Victim Advocates in providing victim services, such as notification of hearings and reviewing law enforcement reports for victims of violent crime who's offenders are not arrested.
    Requirements: Must have two year degree or equivalent experience.

  4. Office Manager: These staff members also assist with hearing notifications, telephone contact with victims and provide support services.
    Requirements: Must have two or four year degree or equivalent experience.
